English

At Mount Rowan Secondary College, English supports students to become confident readers, writers and communicators. The program builds strong literacy skills for learning, work and everyday life.

Students learn through three key areas:

Reading and Viewing

Students study a wide range of texts, including novels, films and digital media. They learn to understand ideas, think critically and explore different perspectives.

Writing

Students develop skills to write clearly and effectively for different purposes and audiences. They learn to plan, draft and improve their writing while building confidence with spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Speaking and Listening

Students take part in discussions, group work and presentations. They learn to listen respectfully, share ideas and communicate with confidence.

VCE Pathways

In the senior years, students may study VCE English, which builds skills in reading, writing and analysis. The course prepares students for VCE assessments and supports further study, training and employment.
